What we do

Delta Technology

Living in the delta that is the Netherlands
Living in coastal areas and deltas has historically appealed to millions of people. It is however a risky business. The Netherlands is vulnerable not only to flooding, but also to water depletion, shortages of groundwater, subsidence, salt intrusion and pollution. With these dangers surrounding us, we have been forced to become skilled water managers.

Developments like climate change however accelerate the pace at which we must find ways to ensure our productivity and safety. This is why the Dutch government ordered a committee of experts in various aspects of delta areas to describe strategic issues and general directions of development in dealing with climate change with a focus on water management. The coming about of the network Delta Technology is a result of this "second Delta plan".

Network Delta Technology
Public and Private partners have joined forces in the Network Delta Technology. The ultimate goal of this group of experts is to ensure the safety of the Dutch citizens for the next centuries to come. An ambitious  but nevertheless necessary plan, looking at the challenges we face. A second goal is to increase the position of the Dutch water sector in the international water market. We have always been leading in the world. Other countries are however catching up on us.

Generating awareness for the importance of a sustainable and safe delta system in the Netherlands is a first prerequisite for achieving this goal. Investing in and stimulating innovation is a second. For this reason the network contiuously develops an innovation agenda. The activities in this agenda are concretely executed by different renowned knowledge institutes in the Netherlands. The network enhances cooperation, accelerates the innovation process and contributes to the practical implementation of these innovations.
